NRL, FedEx, and more work stuff

Today's work was at the Naval Research Laboratory's Center for Computational Science, helping Rob install a new robotic tape library, in a very chilly server room. Also present in that room was a 40-processor, Fluorinert-cooled Cray MTA-2; down a hallway or two was a multi-petabyte robotic storage library, featuring two ~10'Dx8'H tape carousels and very capable robotic arm in the middle. Impressive, yo. Unfortunately, traffic meant it took an hour to make the ~23-mile drive, with stop-and-go traffic everywhere -but- 495 from 95 to 1; fortunately, the drive home mid-afternoon took less than half that.
While at work and via email after, I managed to track down the additional info I needed about a) the web-based training on SANs, b) accommodations and directions in Denver, and c) a loaner laptop for use during the class until I get my own. Since getting home, I've completed about 1/3 of the course; it would have been more by now, but I agreed to help Nathan retrieve his delivery-attempted package (containing his pre-ordered copy of the new game Fable) from FedEx. It wasn't getting back from the truck until sometime after 7, they closed at 8, he had rehearsal at 8, and he didn't want it sitting inside the storm door all day, see. And since he'll be taking care of my animals next week while I'm in Denver, I figured I could sacrifice the time. A bit more time than expected, because the FedEx office is pretty busy right before closing, and with time for a gas stop and Subway (free 6" sub!) I was gone about an hour.
Now, back to the class, and some expense/task reporting paperwork, and the security paperwork I have to have done by Friday.. whee! :P
Oh by the way, it seems many of Kryptonite's locks can be compromised with a very high-tech pick.. a Bic pen barrel.
