After successfully locating my high school despite MapQuest's bad directions from 395 to Braddock--I'd always previously come in from the west, not the south--I arrived 15 minutes late to Chris Colin '93's book reading, for his new book, What Really Happened to the Class of '93: Start-Ups, Dropouts, and Other Navigations Through an Untidy Decade. In the AudLob I encountered Dr. Dell and James Tsai; in the room upstairs I ran into Mrs. Groves,
teky4lf ('93!),
whatthefuck, Praveen K, and Brian Oh, as well as Kate Grumbacher and Mr. Slivoskey (who I didn't realize had been with the school since its inception as a tech school in '85.)
Chris read from several chapters of his book, most of which focus on individual students he interviewed, three of whom were in the room, then opened the floor for questions (either for himself or his guests.) Overall it was a great presentation, and the attendance ranged from class of '89--first grads from the tech school--through current students, plus several teachers and administrators. I bought a copy of the book, chatted with Chris, and got the book signed, as well as picked up a copy of a flyer for his three upcoming readings in Alexandria and DC, June 2-4.
Update, Wed. 00:04: Photo 1, photo 2. :)
Afterwards I wandered with Marta through one of her old haunts--the drama hall, including the green room, costume room, and stage--before checking directions to get back to 395 (it's easy--236) and chatting about TJ through the years, and home I went. And thus, my 7 solid days of social merriment come to and end. :)
Nathan's out of town this week, so perhaps the house'll get neat and stay that way until the weekend.. heh.
