Graves Mtn ride, festival, movies (KBv2)
The forecast rain held off all day save for a few sprinkles here and there, which was all right. It was still a grey, windy day, but that was also all right. :) The route for the ride this morning was near that of the Fall Foliage Ride in October, and ended in the same place, but via a more direct route--just as well, since the GW Nat'l Forest would've been damp, foggy, and generally inhospitable for a group ride today.
I headed out with the sport bike group, and held my own reasonably well--I'm becoming more comfortable with how my bike handles, and pointers from the books I read recently helped as well. However, I still found myself trailing far behind at time, and in doing so became the head of a trailing group before we arrived at Graves Mountain--which we did, despite some navigational confusion on my part. :) (We then parked in a grassy section, and I had to borrow a metal plate to stick under my sidestand so it wouldn't sink; we later moved our bikes to the tennis courts that were being used as motorcycle parking, also where the group that beat us there had parked.)
The Spring Fling Festival at Graves Mountain was pretty fun--all kinds of arts and crafts, bluegrass music, hayrides/pony rides/stuff for the kids, and food galore, with foggy mountains as a backdrop. Of course, I took pictures--of bikes on the trip as well as the festival--which I'll post later.
I rode back with Reid, the guy who sold me my bike, as he rode his yellow Vulcan--a cruiser with which he held his own against the sport bikes earlier in the day. Incidentally, my bike only got about 36mpg on the tank this morning--I think the sportier performance I had to use took its toll on fuel economy. The downside of this is that I went to reserve about 40mi earlier than expected, and by the time I got gas in Front Royal, I put in almost 5gal into my 5.5gal tank.
After returning to Manassas, via the obnoxious 28/Godwin/234 interchange, I met Christina at Mike's Diner, and had some crappy food. We then headed to Hoyt's, where we bought tickets to a movie, participated in a market survey relating to the TV ad for The Stepford Wives, I played a round of Arctic Thunder, and we saw Kill Bill vol. 2, which rocked. Hard.
Previews: The TV spot for The Stepford Wives (new version) is all right, but the full trailer is good--DVD it. 10.5, an NBC movie about a series of earthquakes that shatters the west coast, looks decent for made-for-TV. Anaconda 2: The Black Orchid looks B-movie but entertaining. Tarantino's newest (not actually a new release, apparently, but only recently taken up by Miramax) upcoming, Hero starring Jet Li looks awesome.
And, the always-incorrect thermometer on a bank on 234 near Godwin Drive read 119ยบ earlier this evening. :)

If it's this Hero, I don't know how Tarantino was involved. Either way it's a good movie - or rather - the chinese import was a good movie.
it's pretty, and well developed, and generally very good.

It's a new digital BBC radio station. Is all talk, with no sports, news or any of that. Is mainly comedy, but a fair whack of literature/serious plays, and children's things. Is neat.
